Northern Pintail
Anas acuta
Synopsis:
Breeds primarily east of the Cascades, especially in the vicinity of
large lakes in southeastern and south-central
Oregon. Most notable are the breeding records from the Willamette Valley
and at Summer Lake. Bred at least twice along the
north coast (Clatsop County) prior to the atlas project. Many western Oregon
records may be of non-breeding individuals.

Relative Detectability:
Easy to spot and to confirm nesting, generally by
noting fledglings accompanied by adults.
Challenge:
Confirm breeding by pairs observed in late spring at additional
Willamette Valley and coastal locations.
